Six Ideas for Making Sure Your Car Is Ready for Winter Weather

Is your car ready for winter? Keeton Auto Repair has some ideas for helping you to get your car as ready for winter conditions as possible.

Look at Your Battery and Get it Tested

How old is your battery? It’s highly likely that the battery is older than you think, which is not great news during cold winter weather. Look at the battery and make sure it doesn’t have corrosion on the posts and that there’s nothing visibly going wrong with it. Then get it tested to make sure that it has enough charge.

Double Check that Your Coolant Is Up for the Job

Have you ever put water in the cooling system at all? If so, you might want to get your coolant flushed and refilled with straight coolant, which is already typically half water. Any additional water just makes it more likely that the radiator or engine block could freeze, which is definitely not what you want when the temperature drops.

Get Your Car’s Oil Changed

If you’re even close at all to needing your car’s oil changed, do it now. That means it’s out of your way for a bit, for starters, and second it makes sure that your car’s engine has the protection it needs. Regular oil changes help to improve your fuel mileage, too.

Get the Fuel Injectors Cleaned

The worst time to have problems with your car’s fuel injectors is probably winter. You don’t want to be stranded because your engine can’t get the fuel it needs. Making sure that your fuel injectors are clean and ready to go helps a lot.

Make Sure Your Heater and Defrosters Work

It should be pretty obvious that you need a functional heater when it’s cold out, but you also need to make sure that your defrosters are working, too. That’s going to help you to be able to see, which is crucial.

Replace Your Windshield Wipers

Something else that’s crucial to visibility are your windshield wipers. They wear out fast and you usually don’t notice that there’s a problem with them until it’s almost too late. Check them out now and then you don’t have to guess.
