What Can You Do to Extend the Life of Your Car’s Tires?

You want your tires to last as long as they possibly can and so does Keeton Auto Repair. Keeping your tires in good condition means that there are some simple services you can have done on a regular basis. There are also some really easy things you can do on your own.

Get the Tires Rotated

Tire rotation gets overlooked by a lot of car owners, but it’s more important than you might think. By swapping tires around periodically, they’re in different places and tend to wear much more evenly. Each wheel of your car has a bit of a different experience on the road. Putting different tires in each position helps to even things out a good bit.

Get Them Balanced, Too

Your wheels and tires also need to be balanced. This can be a bit of a confusing service for your tires until you realize how balance affects objects that spin. Think about anything that spins and what happens when it’s off balance. That item tends to wobble off center, and that wobble just gets worse over time. The same thing happens when your car’s wheels aren’t balanced.

Get Regular Wheel Alignments

Another major service that you can’t afford to skip is wheel alignments. This service ensures that your wheels are lined up the way that they should be. If they aren’t, that means that your tires are going to wear more on one edge than another, which can eventually create big problems, especially if that goes on for too long. Lots of different issues can affect alignment, so this is a service that you need to have done at least annually.

Don’t Forget Maintenance Between Services

As important as regular tire and wheel services are, there’s a lot that you can do between those services to maintain your tires, too. The first is to simply look at your tire tread a little more often. You can start to notice how much the tread is wearing and whether that tread wear is even or not. That’s important, because it can clue you in to big issues in between services.

Keeton Auto Repair in Overland Park, KS can help you with all of your tire needs. If it’s been a while since the last time you had your tires rotated, balanced, or aligned, give us a call. We can help you to get the most out of your tires.
